The Bare-Minimum Skin Care Regimen You Should Be Doing Every Day

When it comes to taking care of our skin, it’s safe to say that we know quite a lot about it more than ever. With influencers vlogging about their beauty routines and the products they use, and with the Internet raving about the most innovative upgrades in the beauty industry, it’s not that hard to get all convinced to try out the beauty trends everybody’s been doing these days.

With a bunch of beauty routines and new products coming out online or by word-of-mouth all claiming to be a great beauty regimen to follow, it could get a bit confusing to choose which ones to commit to. Skincare routines may seem like high maintenance. But in reality, these steps are proven necessary for keeping your skin in good health.

In contrary to the 10-steps skincare routine, which involves a bunch of skin products to be slapped on to your skin to get that ideal Korean  complexion, you can always go for the less high maintenance way of taking care of your skin but still, get the healthy skin that you want.

No need to be puzzled by all of these beauty trends. You can always go basic. Here’s the bare-minimum with skincare regimen that you should be doing every day.

1. Never Skip the Cleanser

The skin is the most exposed organ of the body and it’s the only one that you can actually clean, so why not do it. Remember, a clean body is a healthy body. Our skin tends to accumulate dirt throughout the day, thus, you have to scrape them out of your skin to avoid breakouts.

It’s not enough to wash and clean your face with soap and water, especially if you’re wearing makeup throughout the day. Cleanse your face with a mild facial cleanser instead of soap to effectively take out the gunk trapped between your pores which may cause breakouts if left unclogged. Rinse your face with warm water to open up the pores a bit to easily take out the dirt and excess oil from the skin.

Finding the right cleanser is important due to varying skin types. For those with dry skin, choose alcohol and fragrance- free cleanser to avoid your skin from drying out more. If your skin is oily, consider using a cleanser that says oil-free. A toner can also further cleanse the face and readies your skin for the next steps of your skincare routine.

2. Sunscreen Too

We cannot stress enough how important sunscreen is as part of your daily skincare routine. It’s summer in the Philippines all-year-round and it only gets warmer as the summer months get nearer. However, rain or shine, harmful UV rays are just around the corner. UV damage due to too much sun exposure affects the skin tremendously and can cause skin aging, sun spots, uneven skin tone, hyperpigmentation, and skin cancer for the worst case.

A good dose of SPF is necessary to protect the skin from the harsh effects of the sun. There are a lot of products that contain SPF such as tinted moisturizers and foundation. However, it is recommended to apply an actual sunscreen with a high SPF on top of your skincare products.

3. Moisturize Day and Night

Moisture keeps our skin plump and glowing, however, our skin loses hydration throughout the day. Just like cleansers, a moisturizer is not one to leave out of your skincare routine. After all, most skincare routines are focused on hydrating the skin.

After cleansing, the natural moisture of the skin is also stripped off along with the impurities. Thus, you need to apply moisturizer to bring back the hydration of your skin. Moisturizers prevent your skin from drying out. Apply moisturizer twice a day, day and night, after every cleanse. For people with oily skin, it is recommended to use lightweight, oil-free, and gel moisturizers.

4. Exfoliate Occasionally

Give your skin time to renew itself. After a while, the skin becomes dull from dead skin cells that have built up on your skin. You need to remove that old layer of skin to give way for the new skin to the surface. This can be done through exfoliation. Not only the dead skin cells are removed but also the leftover gunk and grime that has accumulated in the skin. Exfoliating the skin can help your complexion look brighter and younger.

Find the right exfoliants that work best for your skin. If your skin is sensitive to physical exfoliants such as scrubs, you might want to consider chemical exfoliants that work from the inside of the skin and its surface.

5. Combat the Signs of Aging

Serums and ampoules can be a great addition to your skincare routine. They are like treatment boosters that are packed with essential ingredients that add more hydration and saturates the skin with beneficial ingredients that combat aging. These skincare products contain antioxidants such as retinol which helps the skin repair giving you younger and healthier skin.

Understanding what your skin needs can definitely help you choose which skincare routines and products to use that your skin can benefit from. If you find it hard to decide which skincare routine should you follow, you can always go back to the basics because it will always stay the same. There’s no need to religiously follow the trend as to how you should be taking care of your skin. For as long as it works for you, then it’s good.
